. . . deny ourselves and place our bodies under the yoke of servitude . . .

An era filmed

These questions have guided the conversations Gijs van Aarle had with a dozen brothers. By means of their answers and some old photos and film clips, he succeeded to give a glimpse into the life of the brothers and the ups and downs of their congregation in the Netherlands, Indonesia and Brazil, from 1854 until now.

He says about his film: "The film "Brothers of Huijbergen" is a portrait of a special world, which started in 1854 and now in our country is carrying cease to exist. A world of passionate people, working for God and humanity, self-effacing as much as possible. That some people did not succeed and others have brought great embarrassment, especially in recent months has become painfully clear. But it does not affect what for one and a half century by hundreds brothers has been put in practise."
