The school ‘Santa Maria’ (ISM) with about five hundred pupils still plays a respectable part in the society of Cáceres. Mrs. Cleia is now, after her predecessor Br. Willibrord Feyen, responsible as headmaster, but the brothers are still in charge of the foundation. Statutes and regulations have been revised to guarantee continuity.

About 135 pupils get their education at the APAE school. Subsidies from the local government have been decreased and the procedures are working slowly. Because of that the school is confronted with difficult choices. To keep and to upgrade the quality of their service they need professional skilled educators but because of financial shortages they have to discharge valuable staff members. Plans to expand the services are kept in the freezer now.

The crèche succeeded in becoming an attractive facility for middleclass families; extra revenues, however, from the hammock mill didn’t come about. The mill had to be closed and revenues are received now from the families who can pay for themselves for their child and other donations.
